Southern California deputy DA Kelly Ernby passes away
The deputy district attorney for Orange County, Kelly Ernby, has passed away, reportedly due to complications after contracting covid-19. As reported by US News, Ernby told friends she was sick with the virus little more than a week ago.
Ernby was 46 when she passed away. The Orange County District Attorney’s office said in a statement they were “utterly heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected passing” of their colleague and friend.
They also said they will remember her as: “An incredibly vibrant and passionate attorney who cared deeply about the work we do as prosecutors – and deeply about the community we all fight so hard to protect.”

Ernby ran for a Republican seat in the Orange County State Assembly two years ago, and was a fierce political activist. After losing out she became precinct chairman for the county Republican Party, and also an elected Orange County GOP central committee member.
She was also well known as a strong opposer of California vaccine mandate proposals. She previously spoke out against mandates at a Turning Points USA rally on 4 December, telling rally-goers: “There’s nothing that matters more than our freedoms right now.”
Many of her friends have shared tributes to Kelly on social media over the past few days:

However, Axel Ernby likes to keep a low-profile as there is little information about his marriage online. It doesn’t appear the couple had children.
