Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has shared some insight after Newcastle United completed the signing of Kieran Trippier.

The right-back has arrived at St James’ Park and he goes down as the first signing of the Magpies’ new era.

Understandably, Newcastle are very happy with the deal, but interestingly, they think that they’ve made a statement with Trippier’s arrival that will result in other quality players wanting to join the club.

One Player Who Should REJECT Your Club

What’s been said about Trippier?

Castles shared how Newcastle feel after getting this deal over the line.

“They are very pleased with the Kieran Trippier deal. They feel they have made a statement by signing an England international who is a good fit for Eddie Howe’s preferred way of playing football. He has shown his faith in the project by being the first player to join despite the threat of relegation and they think that will result in other high-level players coming to join him,” Castles said.

Not a seismic signing

With all due respect to Newcastle and Trippier, this isn’t exactly a seismic signing.

It’s a great purchase, and we’re sure Trippier will do brilliantly, but we can’t imagine that many top players will be clamouring to play at Newcastle now that Trippier is there.

The right-back isn’t exactly a superstar. Yes, he’s an England international who has won La Liga, but it wasn’t that long ago that he was playing in the Championship with Burnley.

It’s a solid first signing and a brilliant foundation to build on, but it’s not exactly the equivalent of Manchester City signing Carlos Tevez or Robinho.

Who knows? Maybe we’re wrong, but we can’t imagine any player picking Newcastle as their next destination just because Trippier has signed.
