Liverpool probably won’t be the most active team in the transfer window, but with this January signifying Michael Edwards’ last window at Anfield, don’t be too surprised if the Sporting Director goes out with one final bang.
Liverpool have one of the strongest squads in Europe, but as with any squad, there are areas in which they could improve.
The Reds are lacking depth at right-back, while they’re about to lose Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to the African Cup of Nations, so an attacking addition could be on the cards.
So, with that in mind, we’re having a go at predicting how Liverpool could line up by the end of January.
We think there will be one incoming and at least one outgoing at Liverpool this month.
It’s been widely reported that Liverpool want to add a winger to their squad, and the player who could come in is Luis Diaz.
Indeed, according to Duncan Castles on the Transfer Window Podcast, the Colombian is a player the Reds are looking at.
“Liverpool have a budget and are targeting a top-level forward,” Castles said last month
“They’re ready to do it in January if the right player becomes available in the January window but definitely will do something in the summer if they have to wait on a particular player.
“And a player who is one of the candidates is Luis Diaz at FC Porto.”
Diaz is a very attainable target, and if he were to come in, we wouldn’t be surprised if he slotted straight into the starting XI after Sadio Mane’s recent poor run of form.
The rest of the XI looks very similar to what we’ve grown accustomed to seeing, but we do expect there to be a change on the bench as Nat Phillips looks likely to depart before the end of the month.
