Manchester City are yet to decide on what to do with 19-year-old midfielder James McAtee, who is wanted by several clubs this January.

According to Wales Online, the Premier League giants are unsure what to do with McAtee this month. The City academy graduate is one of the most exciting names coming from the club, with numerous teams said to be interested.

As per the report, Swansea City and AFC Bournemouth are keen on signing the teenager, whilst according to Sky Sports News via the Mirror, Premier League side Southampton also hold an interest in the 19-year-old talent.

McAtee made his debut for City earlier this season and is expected to feature for the club tomorrow in their FA Cup third-round clash against Swindon Town.

A midfielder who Pep Guardiola once lauded as ‘exceptional’ as per the Manchester Evening News, McAtee could be the next big name to come from City following the success of Phil Foden and Cole Palmer’s breakout campaign this season.

However, with the midfielder’s contract expiring next year, it appears that City are working on sorting this situation out first before deciding on whether to send McAtee out on loan.

Contract much more important for City and McAtee than loan move

Interest in a permanent move for McAtee is high, with reports suggesting that Manchester United and FC Barcelona are all keen on the City youngster. And this alone should prompt the club to extend the youngster’s contract.

McAtee has shown in his brief appearances for City that he is a talent well-suited to Guardiola’s side. And tying him down on a long-term future will be the perfect solution for the club if they can manage to do it this month.
