Barcelona are set to make a fresh approach to sign reported Arsenal target Renato Sanches from Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille during the January transfer window, according to Le10 Sport.
The Blaugrana have retained an interest in the Portuguese after failing to complete a deal last summer. They found common ground with Sanches over a possible move to the Camp Nou, but lacked an agreement with his club following his strong showing at Euro 2020.
Lille considered Barcelona’s offers inadequate after Sanches played a key role in their title-winning side last season. The 24-year-old scored once and assisted three goals in 23 Ligue 1 games. He has already scored once and assisted once in 11 appearances so far this term.
Barcelona are now prepared to return to Lille with a new bid this month, with Sanches also keen to leave. The 32-cap international feels it is time for a new challenge. But his agent is also ready to begin seeking potential options for a move once his contract expires in 2023.
Barcelona to deal Arsenal transfer blow with Sanches bid
Barcelona consider Sanches their next goal of the January transfer window after signing Ferran Torres from Manchester City. But they cannot yet register the £46.5m Spaniard and Le10 Sport do not claim how much the Blaugrana can afford to pay Lille for the Portuguese.
But Barcelona making a fresh offer to Lille for Sanches’ transfer could be a blow for Arsenal. Especially as Sanches told L’Equipe in November he was set to move to Catalunya in 2021.
That’s because AS reported last month that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were the two top contenders for Sanches’ transfer. Calciomercato also noted in November that Technical Director Edu was seeking ways for Arsenal to offer Lille €55m (£46m) for Sanches’ transfer.
Edu could now struggle to see Arsenal sign Sanches with Barcelona reviving their transfer interest in the Lille star. One whom Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has long lauded.
“Sanches is a fantastic player and will be a key figure for Bayern in the future,” Ancelotti said, via the Daily Mail, after the midfielder moved to Munich for £28m in 2016. “He has already shown quality and character. He can be amazing and can carry Bayern.”
